THE HOMELESS PRIME MINISTER
By Hama Tuma
Sometimes we Ethiopians like to boast. The first in everything! The cradle of humankind. The fist bare foot runner to win the Marathon. The first to claim an annual economic growth of 12% and ask for food aid for 12 million people or more. The first country since the 1970s to claim a 99.9% wins for the ruling party in the general election. And now to top it all we have come to stun the world by having the first homeless prime minister in History.
The Ethiopians and moral conduct
By Yilma Bekele.
I dreamt about my uncle. He has been dead for over ten years so I was wondering what brought him to my conscious now. It was a vivid dream and I woke both sad and happy. So all day long I kept wondering what is it that made me dream about him. I really think I was able to come up with a reasonable explanation why this memory was triggered in my brain. I believe it is due to what I have been reading lately that woke up this memory about service, integrity and today’s Ethiopia.
Reeyot Alemu, Ethiopia
2012 Courage in Journalism Award
International Women’s Media Foundation
Courage in Journalism Awards 2012 winner
A CRITICAL VOICE LOST TO ETHIOPIA’S WAR ON INFORMATION
Reeyot Alemu has been imprisoned in Ethiopia for more than a year, branded as a terrorist. She is one of many journalists who have been arrested, interrogated and threatened in her country. What makes Alemu exceptional are her commitment to work for independent media when the prospect of doing so became increasingly dangerous, her refusal to self-censor in a place where that practice is standard, and her unwillingness to apologize for truth-telling, even though contrition could win her freedom. In jail, Alemu was offered clemency if she agreed to testify against journalist colleagues.

An Ethiopian and the Presidential debate
By Yilma Bekele
President Obama and his challenger Mitt Romney had their first debate this evening. Watching this debate for the highest office in the land was a learning moment. This is not the first debate I have viewed or the first election I am experiencing. But no matter what, for an election starved Ethiopian like me every time it happens it is a like being hit by a lightning bolt experience. It literally gives me a jolt.

SUDAN: CONDEMNABLE ACTION AGAINST ETHIOPIANS
Sudan has joined the repressive regime in Addis Ababa in violating the basic human rights of Ethiopians. It has deported Ethiopian refugees, allowed TPLF agents to run wild and free in the Sudan and more. We highlight here two recent and alarming developments:
World’s Largest Database on International Land Deals Published
You can find the database here.
The Land Matrix database, published in September by an international coalition of NGOs and research groups, is now the world’s largest database on international land deals since 2000. While reliable data has been hard to find on land grabs, this database offers unprecedented detail on who’s investing, where and what for. However, the data is not fully reliable as access to information in countries varies, and smaller deals are often harder to track. The database includes 1,006 deals covering 70.2 m hectares (half the size of western Europe). The vast majority of deals are for agricultural projects, of which fewer than 30% are for food crops. Almost 20% are for non-food crops such as biofuels and for livestock feed.

Hailemariam Desalegn Unwelcome in New York City !!!!
By Tedla Asfaw
The rainy cloudy Sept. 28, 2012 was not a welcome weather for anyone. It
was raining hard from early morning and we followed the weather hour by

2nd Avenue at UN.
Regarding our new Prime Minster
By Yilma Bekele
There is no place on planet earth that begs for change like our country. There is no need to itemize all the areas where we stand at the tail end of human achievement. That is the bad news. The good news is we can’t get any lower than where we are at now thus the only way for us is up.
Sudan’s Bashir visits Egypt, confirms “identical position” on Nile Water dispute
Sudan Tribune: September 16, 2012 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese President Omer Al-Bashir arrived in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Sunday and reaffirmed during talks with his counterpart Mohammed Morsi the “identical position” of the two neighbors with regards to the dispute over Nile Water rights.
IN SUPPORT OF REVEREND DESMOND TUTU - (THE PERFIDY OF BLAIR AND BUSH)
By Hama Tuma
Desmond Tutu condemned Tony Blair and George Bush junior as war criminals who should be tried at the Hague and refused to attend an event where Blair would be present. Yet, the so called International Court is a Western tool targeting anti-American dictators or warlords from Africa and other such regions. This aside, Desmond Tutu’s stand has made my day and I have more reasons than him (he mentions Iraq and Afghanistan) to call for their immediate arrest knowing quite well this may never happen. No ground for optimism–Henry Kissinger has never been tried for his crimes in Indochina; pro American war criminals have never been touched.

PM HAILE MARIAM DESALEGN SHOULD BE TRIED
A concerted propaganda campaign has been launched inside and outside Ethiopia to present the new PM in Addis Abeba, Haile Mariam Desalegn as a technocrat with no history of human rights violation. Sadly, some Ethiopians have also joined this campaign and are echoing falsehood.

Mr. Charles Krauthammer is an American syndicated columnist, political commentator and is considered a highly influential conservative voice. He is critical of President Obama’s policies and supports the election of Mr. Romney to be President. As a tradition if a candidate for the presidency does not have a thick resume when it comes to foreign policy issues they normally travel to friendly European countries to shake hands with the leaders for what is called a ‘photo opportunity’.
STOCKHOLM (AP) — Back home after being imprisoned in Ethiopia for more than a year, two Swedish journalists on Friday dismissed their trial on terror charges as a "sham," saying they accepted 11-year prison terms to improve their chances of being released.

RELEASE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS NOW !
The tyrant is dead but his system of oppression continues. On Ethiopian New Tear Day (September 11), the regime has released more than 1500 prisoners of whom two were Swedish journalists jailed for coming into the Ogaden together with the ONLF. No political prisoner has been released and the ”justice” minister of the unjust regime has declared there are none whatsoever.

THE KOREAN DEATH OF A TIGREAN DESPOT
Hama Tuma
Meles Zenawi , a man who identified himself as a Tigrean (his ethnic group) and hated Ethiopia, was not able to say all reports of my death are exaggerated though his death was announced long before he kicked the bucket from an ailment that his friends have decided to keep secret. His death was late by Ethiopian standards and expectations while his masters, loyalists and sycophants wailed at his “sudden” passing away.

An Ethiopian with election envy.

The first election was held in 1788 and there were five contestants and it was won by George Washington. Barack Obama is the 44th President. Regarding the drama due to the death of the tyrant
By Yilma Bekele
I am hoping this is the last discussion about our emotional response regarding the disappearance then death of Ato Meles Zenawi. As controversial and in your face individual he was alive his death has brought drama, division and ugliness to our life. The person is refusing to go away in silence and dignity. I am very much conflicted about his going away. First and foremost I want to make it clear that I am definitely not sad at all. It is not because I am inhuman or lack empathy. Far from that, I consider myself caring and always concerned about others.

CAN THE OPPOSITION LEARN FROM PAST MISTAKES?
By Meatu Derese
In my short article in Amharic a bit earlier I have tried to highlight the tragedy of the successive Ethiopian dictatorial regimes. Although the brutal dictators and their foreign sponsors are the main forces to blame, many pseudo opposition groups have also contributed to that tragedy by extending the lives of those dictators on power and the sufferings of our people. Sooner or later, however, all of these forces have culminated in great shame. The sad fact of the matter, however, is the failure to learn from past mistakes, and repetition of similar tragedies from regime to regime.
