This paper outlines three key points that must be addressed by the major players in the formation of the Alliance in order to ensure the success of the Alliance and to gain the much-needed trust of the Ethiopian people. Particular attention will be paid to the following basic elements in relation to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the Statutes issued by the signatories of the Alliance:
• The question of national unity, territorial integrity and Ethiopian sovereignty,
• The significance of the 2005 elections, and illegitimacy of the TPLF regime, and

The opposition parties that won the trust of the peoplein the May 2005 elections have no extensive security network, party army, or any large party business empires. These attributes of the opposition parties are assets and not liabilities for Ethiopia and Ethiopians. The people including the party members may be free to support or oppose or to remove the parties from power if they fail to deliver what they promised. The Ethiopian people have always been observant of their responsibilities in supporting the state and any opposition force that promised them a better life. They have always borne all the costs caused by the bureaucracy hoping to get education, medical care, and an improvement in their living conditions. They defended the country with all they possessed including their lives. However, Ethiopia has become an example of poverty, civil wars, famine, AIDS and Malaria epidemic, violations of human and democratic rights.
